Dragon Dictation Headset Setup

This article is all about setting up your headset with Dragon Naturally Speaking – a dictation program you can install on your computer to turn your speech into text.

Leitner Wireless Headsets have excellent compatibility with Dragon. They're a great choice for all your voice dictation needs!

Setting Up Your Headset with Your Computer

Before we adjust settings in Dragon, let's make sure our headset is set up correctly.

• For Windows 10 and Mac computers, follow the instructions here
• For Windows 11 computers, follow the instructions here

If the headset is not giving you great sound, try checking the Levels:

1. In the Playback tab, right-click the headset. Go to Properties
2. In the new pop-up window that opens up, go to the Levels tab
3. Make sure the headphone and microphone sound are both slid to 100%
4. If you are still having trouble, repeat this from the Recording tab. Make sure Microphone volume is at 100%
5. If issues persist, make sure the mic is close enough to your mouth, either by rotating the boom or bending the mic closer (If using a Leitner headset)

Dragon Settings

After establishing that the headset works, either log into your Dragon profile and select the headset as your microphone OR, if you're creating a new Dragon profile, try the following steps:

1. Open Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
2. Go to "NaturallySpeaking > Advanced > Manage Users."
3. Click on "New".
4. Enter a name for the user (e.g., John USB).
5. From the Dictation Source drop-down menu, select "USB Microphone".
6. Click on "Next".
7. Follow the instructions in the Audio Setup Wizard to train the user profile.
