Updated by Kamika Royal on Mar 29, 2024

Note: We no longer sell Plantronics headsets, so we don't have much information on them aside from what is in this article. Hope this gets you what you need!

What does an EHS do?

Also known as an electronic hookswitch, this is the device that allows you to answer phone calls from a distance just by turning on the headset. The following instructions are for telephones compatible with the SNOM and Nextiva EHS cable

Setting up the SNOM and Nextiva Hookswitch

The setups for SNOM and Nextiva phones are slightly different, so let's go through them one at a time. Below is a picture that acts as a guiding light, though your connection may be slightly different.

Plantronics wireless headset setup with SNOM EHS

SNOM 300, 320, 370, 820, D3x5, D785, D735, D717, Nextiva phones
SNOM 300, 320, 370, 820, D3x5, D785, D735, D717 cords

For this setup, we will need the black SNOM box, as well as the 2 cords circled. The one in red is not labeled on the cord, and the one in blue is labeled as "S3xx EXT s820 EXT". We will also need the telephone connector cord (RJ45 to RJ9) that came with the headset.

  1. Plug one end of the cord with a pin on it (red circled cord) into the round AUX port in the back of the Plantronics charging base. Then, plug the other end into the small round port on the SNOM box
  2. Take the cord circled in blue (it will have this label on the cord "S3xx EXT s820 EXT") and plug the side that says "EHS Box" and plug it into the black SNOM EHS box. Then, take the other end and plug it into the "EXT" or "1/0" port (whichever is available) on your SNOM (or Nextiva) phone
  3. Take the telephone connector cord that came with the headset and plug the big end into the back of the charging base, then the other end into the headset jack of your phone
  4. Flip the headset base over and make sure the sliding switch is set to A
  5. Lastly, go ahead and reboot your SNOM phone, and it should start working!

Note: You can skip this step if plugging into Nextiva phone
